Fishing

Northern Vancouver Island is a superb place to catch saltwater and freshwater fish. All five species of Pacific salmon are caught in our waters.

Our guests appreciate the typically calm and protected waters in our area. Mighty halibut, lingcod, rock cod and more can be caught nearby. Mouth-watering prawns, Dungeness and red rock crab, and scallops are just a short boat ride away.

While we encourage catch and release, there is nothing better than harvesting your own fresh seafood dinner and enjoying it with family or friends. Spring (Chinook) salmon are caught in May and June, but arrive en masse in June or July. The arrival of spring salmon is also celebrated with the arrival of resident orcas delighting us with their annual visit.

Halibut are abundant (and feeding in shallower waters) from May through October. Healthy runs of summer and winter run steelhead are found in many of our local rivers.

For a life enriching fishing experiences, bring your own boat, or enlist the help of a local fishing guide such as leisuresuitcharters.com to put you into the best fishing available.
